Even under trying circumstances like Covid-19, life still moves on. We still need groceries, our power cords and batteries die, and we need services provided to our home and appliances. Understandably, this can be a bit overwhelming. But we still need the service or technician to enter our home. Here are just a few things you need to keep in mind to stay safe when hiring a home service provider.
We are all experiencing this for the first time, so it’s imperative we take precautions for ourselves and for the technicians.
1. Follow the Rules
It is vital that everyone stay informed and follow all the safety procedures put in place in your area. Keep yourself and your loved ones up to date with local, national, and global news updates on what measures seem to be working over others.
Don’t be afraid to err on the side of caution. This is particularly important if there are vulnerable people living in the home.
2. Wear Protective Gear
If you need to have some emergency work done, wear the protective gear set out by your local healthcare provider guidelines. Wearing masks and gloves not only protects you, but it also helps protect the technicians who have to enter your home.
3. Ask What Their Protective Policies are
You need to know who is coming into your home. Ask what precautions the company is employing to protect you and their staff. Do they have any type of preventive testing in place, will the staff be wearing protective gear, etc.
You can also ask if the company has had any reported illnesses. You should also report to the company if you have had any illness in your home, whether it is Covid-19 or not.
4. Clean The Area
Before the technicians arrive, clean the area well if it is indoors. Remove all debris from the area and disinfect as much as possible. Open windows to keep the area well ventilated.
5. Keep Your Distance
Maintain all regulations regarding keeping your distance from the technicians. It’s normal to want to guide the tech through the home to the problem, along with discussing history, symptoms, etc. Please remember that while the tech needs to hear and see what’s going on, 6 feet of distance is still requested.
Let them get in and out as quickly and as safely as possible. Everyone needs to feel comfortable and safe. That includes everyone in the home and the people coming in to do the work.
It is vital that we all do our part to stay safe, protect ourselves and others, and obey the rules. Chances are, the home service provider won’t need to be there for very long, so move everyone else out of the way, let them do their work and everyone will stay safe and healthy.
It’s a strange and trying time we are living through but we are all in it together. It is happening to everyone around the world, so let’s do our part to help stop the spread of Covid-19 and get back to life.
